~*~::{Veil of Lies}::~*~

The smiley face you see is not what happens on the inside.  Like a veil, it covers who you truly are and distorts the truth.  All the lies you have to say are your veil and all the people you feel you have to appease are your audience just waiting for you to crumble under the pressure of the high expectations you set for yourself.
People see a smile that they think makes everything okay and happy; happy on the outside, crying on the inside.  They don't know what you go through; working your hardest to just feel adequate enough to continue your life.
They see a person with potential and you see a worthless slug.  You try to hide from the world without letting anyone know you're really hurting; acting to be someone you're not.  Is a shoulder to cry on so much to ask?  Occasionally, a friend will ask if everything's okay.  You know it's not and they know it's not...so why can't you tell them?  Fear of being yelled at for being so negative, which in turn, would make things even worse.
You cry every night wanting that one special person to hold you close and never let go.  You fear rejection and loss.  You never get your hopes up so you can't ever get hurt anymore.  Nothing goes your way.  The one time you do get your hopes up, they come crashing down and make you feel worse.
It may seem hard right now, but you have to rip off the veil.  Let people see you for who you truly are.  They may not like it, and at times, neither will you.  But it's the one thing that can set you free.
